PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- MSA Safety Inc., (NYSE: MSA), a global leader in advanced safety technology, today announced it is proud to partner with one of the largest utility providers in the northeast United States as the utility invests in connected technologies that support worker safety to better serve their communities.
The major U.S. energy utility selected the MSA Safety ALTAIR io™ 6 Multigas Detector to help enhance worker safety and operational efficiency. As part of the MSA+™ Connected Ecosystem, the ALTAIR io 6 Multigas Detector provides real-time visibility into worksite conditions, helping organizations streamline compliance, simplify reporting and improve workforce productivity.
The utility's five-year purchase agreement is valued of up to $10.6 million and is the largest ALTAIR io™ 6 Multigas Detector contract received to date, representing approximately $6.7 million in initial contract value. MSA expects to begin shipping the initial order in December 2026, with deployment of the devices scheduled to begin in January 2027.

"This multi-year partnership underscores the trust placed in MSA Safety's connected detection solutions and service, while helping customers protect their people and operate more efficiently."
The ALTAIR io 6 Multigas Detector is designed to help address the risks of combustible gas exposure, confined space, and lone-worker situations by combining advanced gas detection capabilities with real-time connectivity to enhance worker protection and operational visibility. The ALTAIR io 6 Gas Detector is MSA's first cellular-connected gas detector featuring an integrated pump, making this six-gas detector ideal for confined space monitoring and sampling applications commonly found across utilities, construction, manufacturing and oil and gas operations.
Features of the ALTAIR io 6 include:
- Real-time cellular connectivity that helps keep workers connected and visible in the event of an emergency,
- An integrated sampling pump designed for pre-entry and confined space monitoring applications,
- MSA XCell® sensor technology for reliable gas detection performance,
- A large, highly visible display for improved readability in a variety of work environments,
- A removable, rechargeable external battery to support extended operational use, and
- A compact, ergonomic design suitable for handheld operation or wearable use.
The detector also features MSA Grid, the company's cloud-based software platform that provides real-time information on device location, gas alarms and worker status. MSA Grid enables safety managers and supervisors to access live and historical data from individual devices or entire fleets, helping improve situational awareness and response times when incidents occur.
