MSPP Executive Coaching Program Holds Open House Nov. 15 to Celebrate International Coach Federation Approval and Unveil New, More Accessible Program Format to Prospective Students

BOSTON and WEST ROXBURY, Mass., Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, November 15, the Executive Coaching Program at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) will showcase its redesigned executive coach training program, which has recently received approval by the International Coach Federation.

"The ICF certification is an important credential for coaches.  Increasingly, those who hire coaches look for individuals who have some recognized certification," says Michele Vitti, director of the MSPP Executive Coaching Program. "Now students who graduate from our program will have ICF approved coach training hours as well as a graduate certificate from MSPP."

The Executive Coaching Program at MSPP, the first executive coaching program established within a graduate school of psychology (2004), trains students to act as internal and external coaches for individuals within companies and organizations. Executive coaches help nurture the leadership skills of people within an organization to increase their productivity and impact the success of that organization.  "We train our coaches to do this guided by principles of psychology, organizational dynamics and adult learning," says Vitti. "The goal in coaching is to support the individual while, at the same time, challenging him/her to look at and make changes in their work behavior and style that enhance their effectiveness as leaders."

MSPP's Executive Coaching program is part of the School's Leadership and Organizational Psychology department.  Completion of the requirements of the executive coach training can be a first step in a master's degree in organization psychology, Vitti adds.

The new program is designed with the professional in mind. "Our program has always been very accessible for busy professionals, but the new format makes it even more practical for full-time workers," says Vitti. Students can finish the program in seven months, spending only one full weekend a month on-site. The remainder of the coursework is online.

The International Coach Federation is a nonprofit organization formed by professionals who practice coaching throughout the world, including executive, leadership and life coaches.
