ARVADA, Colo., April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In a story out of Washington, DC on April 12, 2017 Oregon's Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden led a group of ten Senators calling on Senate Appropriations Committee leaders to dedicate adequate funding to cleaning up National Guard sites across the U.S. that have been contaminated by dangerous amounts of lead dust.
The Oregonian on December 13, 2016 reported that the National Guard is halting all community events in armories across the country to address severe lead issues. Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Kadavy, Director of the Army National Guard, wrote in his Dec. 6 order that the Guard issued a mandate setting imminent deadlines. Earlier cleanup efforts were sidetracked partly because the Guard required states to bear most of the cost, but now the December 6th mandate pledges Federal money for cleanups and that "the cost of clean-up is considered to be 100 percent Federal share."
MT2 reached out to armories across the country to offer assistance and is now in talks with several of them, with 3 projects under contract and mobilization plans established in North Dakota and Oregon.
Range Engineers at MT2 are available to answer questions and schedule armory facilities for a lead decontamination package to comply with this order. This package includes a lead assessment with a comprehensive site-specific service audit with a work-plan for complete lead reclamation and recycling as well as a timeline for ongoing monitoring to comply with the order.
