ODANAK, QC, Nov. 27, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - For the very first time, the Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada (ATAC) joins the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) to present an award that aims to recognize excellence in Aboriginal tourism.
It is thus with a strong feeling of pride that the Musée des Abénakis was presented the National Aboriginal Cultural Tourism Award during the Canadian Tourism Awards Gala, held on November 26th 2014, in Ottawa. This award recognizes the Musée des Abénakis for its commitment to customer satisfaction through authentic products and innovative cultural offerings. Over the last 50 years, it stimulated economic activity in the tourism sector and promoted Aboriginal culture in all its forms.
This recognition validates the innovative choices made by the Musée des Abénakis, pioneer of aboriginal museums in Quebec, which continually renewed its cultural offerings. The development of tailored and inspiring experiences for knowledge-hungry tourists and the decision to go hand in hand with significant players from the community both contributed to this prestigious recognition.
This great honour is the result of the collaboration within a dedicated team that has been working for half a century in order to offer a unique experience to its customers. Thus, this award recognizes the Musée des Abénakis as a must-visit destination in Canada.
The Musée des Abénakis congratulates the Gespeg Micmac Interpretation Site, in Gaspé and the Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations, in Wendake, both 2014 finalists for the National Aboriginal Cultural Tourism Award. In addition, we applaud the finalists of all the categories awarded during the evening of the Canadian Tourism Awards Gala.
About the Musée des Abénakis
Founded in 1965 as the first aboriginal museum in Quebec, the Musée des Abénakis is dedicated to preserving, documenting and transmetting Abenakis First Nation's cultural heritage.
The museum, which was presented an Award of Excellence by the Société des Musées du Québec last October is funded by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec and by the Abenakis of Odanak Council. The Musée des Abénakis is proud to be able to count on financial support from Canadian Heritage in order to implement various one-off projects.
