Music Festival For A Cause Celebrates San Antonio's 300th Anniversary At The Sunken Garden Theater
SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas-based nonprofit for the deaf and hard-of-hearing (HOH), Aid the Silent, partners with hearing-solution industry leaders to host second annual all-accessible festival in San Antonio, TX. The Good Vibrations Music & Arts Festival (GVMAF), open to hearing individuals and persons with hearing loss, will take place at the historic Sunken Garden Theater Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 1 p.m. – 11 p.m. The event is an official Tricentennial Community Partner that will honor San Antonio and Bexar County's 300th anniversary. GVMAF benefits Aid the Silent's efforts to provide accessibility and equality to deaf youth.
The Good Vibrations Music & Arts Festival is an all-day, family-friendly event featuring popular musicians Parachute, American Idol winner Kris Allen, Penny & Sparrow, Willow City, Zoë Nutt, Ryan Scott Travis, Emma Faye Rudkin, Sarah Spivey and Adopted Kids.
With dozens of vendor booths, games and photo opportunities, there is something for everyone to enjoy. GVMAF is open to people of all ages. The festival highlights accessibility and inclusiveness of individuals with hearing loss bringing the hearing world together with deaf individuals. The festival is a 10-hour concert, which features eight performances that showcase real-time captioning, on-stage sign language interpretation, looping technology that transmits sound directly into hearing aid wearers' devices, wearable audio technology that translates high-fidelity sounds into vibrations, an LED dance floor and a visual sound wave board that is synchronized to the tempo of the music.
Platinum sponsors, Cochlear Americas and Ear Institute of Texas, have partnered with the festival to benefit Aid the Silent—a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to advocating for the deaf/hard-of-hearing community. Last year, thousands of people attended the inaugural event along with dozens of local artisans and food trucks. Several hearing-solution industry professionals from across the nation worked together with local businesses to help bring awareness about hearing loss and accessibility.
"The festival was such a great event—the food, the music, it was all amazing. Not only was it a very memorable time overall, but I learned a lot about hearing loss, too. It was a great concert that allowed hearing people to experience music with those who are deaf—such an eye-opener," San Antonio local Cathleen Johnson said. "I cannot wait for the next festival."
Last November, GVMAF won Best of the Fest-Charitable Music Fest in the FestForums Conference awards in Santa Barbara, California. Festivals across the United States are recognized in their respective categories: Film, Music, and Food & Beverage. And then broken down into sub categories: Charity, Sustainability, and Breakthrough.
Aid the Silent helps deaf and hard-of-hearing children and teens receive equal access to opportunity by providing financial assistance to enhance communication methods; gain access to education resources; and to grow socially, educationally and spiritually. Aid the Silent's goal is to give deaf/HOH children the same opportunities to excel as their hearing peers.
