WASHINGTON, June 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NACD is pleased that the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee voted 8-2 earlier today to extend the current federal chemical security program. This follows House Homeland Security Committee passage of a similar bill last week by a vote of 26-5.

NACD supported the 2006 legislation that resulted in the creation of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) and now strongly supports S.473, which would extend the program until October 4, 2014. S.473 is common sense legislation that would allow more time for implementation and evaluation of CFATS before changes to this important program are considered.
"We are pleased that this legislation is moving through the Congressional Committees with strong bipartisan support," said NACD Government Affairs Vice President, Jennifer Gibson. "We commend Senator Collins for her multi-year efforts and leadership on this important issue."
