NEW YORK, Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Nalls Studio is pleased to announce Olfactory Inkblot_3, an Olfactory Meditation on the World Olfactory Social Sculpture World Sensorium led by artist Gayil Nalls. The Olfactory Meditation will take place Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 4:00pm at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, (Building C) 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301. This is the third Olfactory Inkblot of an ongoing series, interactive works that encourage participants to explore their psychophysical response to natural smells. Named for the Rorschach psychological inkblot tests, the series draws attention to one's unique response to scent perception and memory.

Gayil Nalls' World Sensorium, is a single scent comprising culturally associative aromatic phytogenic materials which are naturally experienced in the olfactory domain. The study for its creation surveyed officials of 230 countries to identify dominant natural aromas retained through odor memory by a majority of people of each country. World Sensorium has been experienced in numerous events, including Times Square 2000, when microencapsulated paperworks, each containing 10 grams of the scent, were released into the sea of 2 million people.

During the meditation, the public will engage with the rare experience of World Sensorium, becoming conscious of olfaction's many dimensions and the botanical intelligence present in the holistic system of nature. Participants will gather in the rotunda under the domed ceiling of the first Greek Revival structure erected on the historic Snug Harbor grounds (1831), which boasts an exquisitely painted allegory of marine and celestial imagery, accentuated by stained glass windows and an illuminated sunray.

Please join us prior to the Meditation for an Artist Talk with Gayil Nalls at 2:00pm, followed by a screening of Nalls' documentary short, Three-Squared at 3:00pm. For additional information visit:
