Naomi Tutu to Headline Global Event with Ambassador Swanee Hunt and Somaly Mam
September 30 Event to Feature Global Thought Leaders
ATLANTA, Aug. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Womenetics today announced Naomi Tutu, race and gender justice advocate, will join Ambassador Swanee Hunt and human trafficking survivor/activist Somaly Mam as a featured speaker at the 2011 Global Women's Initiative: The Ripple Effect. At this multi-stakeholder conference, Womenetics will host leading international experts to explore ways to advance women and girls worldwide in order to build more prosperous and secure societies. The symposium will focus on public and private initiatives impacting critical issues including economic and political empowerment, human rights and equal access to education and health. This day-long program will feature global thought leaders from the corporate, public policy, academic and non-profit realms that will inspire, motivate and engage attendees with discussions around increasing women's impact in the world.
"Womenetics is honored to have Naomi Tutu join us for this second annual event," says Elisabeth Marchant, president and CEO of Womenetics. "As a leading expert on country development issues and domestic violence, and someone who experienced gender and race inequities first hand, we are eager to hear from Ms. Tutu about increasing women's self determination through economic empowerment and access to healthcare and education."
Growing up black and female in apartheid South Africa and as the third child of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Naomi Tutu has faced many challenges and opportunities in her life. Educated in Swaziland, the US and Great Britain, she took up the call to become a human rights activist after life experiences taught her the personal consequences of being judged purely on physical attributes. Today she channels her opportunities as a champion for the dignity of all. Ms. Tutu will address the conference to open the symposium's afternoon session.
The Global Women's Initiative: The Ripple Effect will take place on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta, GA. For more information about this event, visit http://www.womenetics.com/events/details/29-global-womens-initiative-the-ripple-effect.
