National Association Invests Over $2.2 Million in Programs to Support Education
IRVING, Texas, Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Alliance for Affordable Services is committed to promoting education and, in 1996, created the Alliance Scholarship Program to offer financial assistance for the dependents of Alliance members to help them achieve their goal of obtaining a college education. To date, the program has supported over 1,500 students with scholarship awards totaling over $2.2 million.
To further support educational goals, Alliance introduced the Career Education Grant program in 2012. This program offers grants to members and their dependents who elect to attend a trade or technical school instead of the traditional college campus.
Alliance recently surveyed past scholarship recipients to find out what they are doing today and how their lives have been impacted since attending college with the support Alliance provided. Of the respondents, 26% have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in various fields, with 19% of those focused on health care and medicine. Another 10% are now teaching or working in education. A recurrent message shared by these college students was their belief that hard work pays off – whether that is putting in the study time for college classes necessary to maintain high grades or the satisfaction they achieve by giving their time and effort toward community activities and charitable organizations they believe in.
"We are proud of what these young people have accomplished in their lives and it is rewarding to know the Alliance Scholarship Program played a part in helping them reach these achievements," says Paul Pevsner, M.D., President of Alliance for Affordable Services.
The Alliance is dedicated to helping its members live better and save more. It leverages its strength in numbers to provide access to valuable benefits and services to meet the personal, professional and health care needs for tens of thousands of members nationwide. Benefit availability is dependent on the package option chosen, the member's state of residence, and may be subject to change.
