National Conservative Group Launches Major Statewide TV Ad Campaign to Defeat Democratic-sponsored Solar Tax
Ad Thanks Governor LePage for Committing to Veto Liberal Tax Schemes
AUGUSTA, Maine, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Beginning this week, former Republican Congressman Barry Goldwater Jr. and his conservative group Tell Utilities Solar won't be Killed (TUSK) will launch a major TV advertising campaign that praises Governor LePage for taking a stand against taxes and committing to veto any Democratic-sponsored bill that makes it to his desk. The ad will run statewide through the end of legislative session. Goldwater is calling on LePage to put his veto pen to LD 1263, the Democratic-sponsored utility solar tax on Maine consumers.
"Liberals want to use higher taxes to prop up European tax and spend schemes and harm the free market," said Barry Goldwater Jr., TUSK Chairman and retired US Congressman. "Maine is lucky to have a strong Governor to veto liberal tax schemes that take control away from Maine consumers."
Initially, LD 1263 expanded net metering. Net metering is the cornerstone policy to a successful solar market and economic development in 44 states. As amended, LD 1263 now undermines net metering and creates a process that leads to new taxes on consumers who generate their own electricity.
In a press conference at the end of May, LePage committed to veto every bill sponsored by Democratic lawmakers until they allow his constitutional amendment banning the income tax to pass through the legislature. As of the beginning of this week, LePage has vetoed 31 bills, and 25 of them have been Democrat-sponsored.
The ad ends by urging Mainers to call LePage and thank him for standing up to taxes. View ad here.
