WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Following is a statement from Mike Balsamo, president of the National Press Club:
"We understand from the family of Chinese journalist Dong Yuyu, that the deadline for the Beijing High Court ruling on his appeal has again been extended from Oct.13, 2025 to January 13, 2026. This pattern of delays and extensions continues to suggest the government does not have and cannot find the evidence needed to make their case under Chinese law. We call on the Chinese government to release Dong Yuyu. In August 2025 we honored Yuyu with the prestigious NPC President's Award. We stand by Mr. Dong and his family as he fights for his freedom."
Founded in 1908, the National Press Club is the world's leading professional organization for journalists. With 3,000 members, the Club, through its Press Freedom Center, is a leading voice for press freedom in the U.S. and worldwide.
