National Quilt Museum Announces Large One-Time Contest as Part of 25th Anniversary Festivities
PADUCAH, Ky., Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2016, The National Quilt Museum will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Founded in 1991 with the mission to honor the work of today's quilters and bring it to new and expanding audiences worldwide, over the past 25 years millions of people from all 50 US states and over 70 foreign countries have experienced the work of today's quilters through the Museum's in-facility and travelling exhibits, educational programs, and advocacy efforts.

As part of this celebration the Museum will be hosting a 25th anniversary contest.
The contest theme is "The Gala of the Unexpected". Individuals that participate in this contest are asked to challenge common perceptions of what a quilt is. In describing this theme Museum Curator/Registrar, Judy Schwender said, "At its most basic, a quilt is three layers held together by some means. There really is no limit to what makes up a quilt as long as the above structure is adhered to."
As the Museum has a global reach, this competition gives quilters a unique opportunity to share their work with people around the world. In addition to the prize money, the 25 quilts selected as finalists will make up a travelling exhibit that will go to museums nationwide. In addition, there will be an exhibit catalog featuring colored photos of the quilts.
The deadline to submit a quilt for the contest is December 1, 2015. On January 28, judges will announce the winners of the contest. Makers of the top three quilts will receive cash prizes in the amounts of $25,000, $10,000 and $5,000.
