LA JOLLA, Calif., April 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National University, the second-largest private, nonprofit institution of higher education in California and the 12th largest in the United States, has received a 10-year reaffirmation of its accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Dr. Jerry C. Lee, Chancellor of the National University System, and the National University Board of Trustees announced today.
"WASC's reaffirmation of National University's accreditation for 10 years recognizes the long-held institutional commitment to academic rigor and quality of every member of the National University System," said Chancellor Lee. "Our mission, making lifelong learning opportunities accessible, challenging, and relevant to a diverse student population, is as critical today as it was when National University was founded 40 years ago."
"The reaffirmation of National University's accreditation by WASC for 10 years is a testament to Chancellor Lee's relentless focus on fostering an atmosphere where student success is the number one priority of every member of our University community," said Ms. Jeanne Connelly, Chair of the National University Board of Trustees. "There is no more fitting tribute to Dr. Lee's 22 years of leadership of the National University System."
National was recognized by WASC for the work of the University's faculty and staff over the years in creating sustainable support systems for student learning and success. National University also received several commendations which included, among others, recognition of its comprehensive faculty-led assessment processes, strong support systems for students from admission through graduation, and its training program for adjunct faculty.
