NEW YORK, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- NATO, a longtime client of Synaptic Digital, was awarded a Communications prize for its development of web-based communication, including the natochannel.tv, and its coverage of the effort in Afghanistan. The prize was awarded on October 14th by Ms. Gitte Lillelund Bech, Danish Minister of Defense, who presented the Communication Prize to the NATO Public Diplomacy Team.

"Denmark supported the establishment of the web-based TV-channel a couple of years ago, and NATO's Public Diplomacy Division has further developed the product to an extent way beyond our expectations," said the Minister of Defense, as she presented the prize to the acting head of NATO's Public Diplomacy Division, Dr. Stefanie Babst.

Synaptic Digital's role is to extend the reach of content to TV and online media outlets globally. NATO Channel content is made available to the media via thenewsmarket.com platform which is accessed by over 30,000 media outlets in 190 countries.  The platform provides journalists on demand access to the multimedia content they need to cover stories they would not otherwise be able to cover.

"We are pleased to enable NATO TV Channel to better reach its target audience via thenewsmarket.com. The platform is proving to be a valuable channel for Government and public diplomacy communications departments to distribute content and engage with foreign and domestic publics," says Jim Lonergan, CEO Synaptic Digital.

The NATO TV initiative was established and led by former broadcast executive and journalist Thomas Dodd, an experienced Strategic Communications Consultant. "NATO TV's core capability is established and successful; it produces content of a high journalistic quality and distributes that content rapidly and globally – sometimes reaching broadcasters faster than major international news agencies. The strategic value-added is that audiences begin to understand seemingly intractable issues such as the context for bringing stability to Afghanistan," says Thomas Dodd.

NATO-TV was launched to improve the way the Atlantic Alliance communicates its mission and operations to the general public by providing regular video updates and reports from the regions where the organization is engaged, with a particular focus on Afghanistan. Footage is available in broadcast quality for journalists and media networks to download for free.
