NETS Awarded $3.5M Contract by Veterans Affairs for Optical Network Initiative

ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Nelson Enterprise Technology Services (NETS) an emerging small business enterprise providing IT Infrastructure, Systems and Network engineering solutions, announced today it was awarded a $3.5 million contract by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to provide the planning, implementation, and oversight in support of building a World-class Optical Network.  

This initiative is in response to the VA's growing enterprise and increasing demand to expand network bandwidth to support three core business units: Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, and the National Cemetery Administration. VA has one of the largest IT infrastructures in the world currently which is utilized by approximately 500,000 support personnel to provide essential services to our nation's veterans.  

NETS is currently assisting the VA with migrating from IPv4 to IPv6 by 2014 as a subcontractor to The Ventura Group and was able to leverage their knowledge of VA to capture this three-year $3.5 million contract. This emerging small business enterprise will ensure that the optical infrastructure plan is designed to be cost-effective, robust and flexible to meet future needs. Under this contract, NETS will provide analyses and engineering necessary to create and execute implementation plans and test plans. NETS will also provide the VA with a transition plan to optimize future success.
