Nevada Commission on Economic Development Announces Search for International Representatives

CARSON CITY, Nev., April 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Chair of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED), announced today that the commission is seeking proposals for professional services contractors to represent Nevada in Spain and the United Kingdom in order to increase international outreach and have more influence on global economic development.  

The new roles will become a part of the commission's award-winning International Trade Representative Program. This outreach is part of an on-going strategic effort by NCED to identify dynamic relationships in key markets around the world dedicated to enhancing Nevada's business profile and successfully identifying new economic opportunities.  

Each year exports infuse approximately $6 billion into Nevada’s economy and sustain 46,000 jobs.  Nevada’s exports have grown more than 300 percent since 2000.

"By securing experienced trade representatives in established European markets, Nevada is flexing its outreach efforts in order to better attract international companies to our state and to more efficiently identify export opportunities for Nevada's businesses," said Krolicki. "The International Trade Representative Program is a powerful tool to grow Nevada's economy through increased foreign investment and job creation."

For a contract period of one year beginning in July 2011, appointed representatives will provide export promotion and attraction of inbound investment services to Nevada companies. The goal is to expand exports of Nevada products and services to the territories where they are positioned and expand foreign direct investment in Nevada from companies in those territories.

The Nevada International Trade Representative Program has international representative offices around the world that represent the state's economic, trade and investment interests, all at no cost to state taxpayers. In December 2003, In Business Las Vegas awarded NCED its "Deal of the Year Award" for Economic Development Excellence. Since 2002, the International Trade Representative Program has positioned itself in six globally significant markets in Asia, Europe and South America.

Highlights of the International Trade Representative Program include:

• No start-up and no annual operational costs.
• Trade representatives are not employees paid by NCED or the state of Nevada. They work on straight commission paid by clients on either side of the deal.
• NCED has concentrated efforts on countries with the most strategic advantage for Nevada, including China, Germany, Brazil, and Italy, and intend to seek additional representatives in the future.

To become an international trade representative, candidates must go through an application and review process which includes interviews with NCED commissioners, staff and external companies. Applications are due by May 11, 2011.
