CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., March 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Staying at home and independent for as long as possible is a cherished hope held by most people as they age. However, making sure that senior loved ones have all the assistance and support they may need can be a substantial drain on the time and energy of family and friends. Acti-Kare Responsive In-Home Care exists to bridge this gap, providing a flexible level of high-quality service to make sure seniors have all the non-medical help they need and family and friends have all the peace of mind they could wish for.
In the Charlottesville and Staunton, Virginia regions, new Area Director Lianne Crookshanks aims to continue a tradition of community service and put her educational background to good use by opening her own Acti-Kare branch. Holder of a bachelor's degree in Management from Virginia Tech and a Master's in Business Administration from James Madison University, Ms. Crookshanks has lived in Augusta County herself since 1990, and is an active parent, school, and church volunteer in the area. She assists non-profit organizations in fundraising efforts, helps the Salvation Army collect and distribute Christmas stockings to needy children, teaches Sunday School, and serves on the nominating and bereavement teams at her church, among other volunteer endeavors.
By entering the senior care field, Ms. Crookshanks says, "I wanted to do something I had been considering for many years. I wanted to help our senior citizens remain at home for as long as possible. My compassion for people and desire to serve led me to the Home Health field."
Acti-Kare is a respected nationwide franchise, yet provides very individualized non-medical care to its senior clientele. The service aims to support seniors' own activity levels, independence, and dignity. Highly trained and compassionate Acti-Kare caregivers may perform a variety of tasks: providing companionship, transportation and mobility assistance; helping with errands, bill-paying, shopping, and nutritional aid; performing light housekeeping duties; and more. Many caregivers have prior experience and/or training in caring for those with Alzheimer's or other special needs, and clients can easily obtain as many hours of support as desired or needed. The flexibility makes Acti-Kare an ideal choice for many seniors and their families, whose needs may change over the course of a few months or years.
"There is a particular need for live-in services in my territory," Ms. Crookshanks adds. "Our caregivers will provide overnight care for the short and the long term ... Even if family members are caring for a loved one, they may need a short break, and that is another way we can help."
Ms. Crookshanks notes that Acti-Kare's business model is particularly suited to providing compassionate care. "After the first conversation with the management team at Acti-Kare," she concludes, "I knew that their corporate philosophy matched mine. I look forward to assisting where we can and establishing long-term relationships with all who are involved in creating a more comfortable environment for our aging population."
