New Braunfels has four of the most popular water attractions in the state, the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers, Canyon Lake, and Schlitterbahn.
"We'd rather have more water, but there are always stretches of the Guadalupe River where there are deeper channels that continue to offer good recreational opportunities," said Judy Young, Convention and Visitor Bureau director. "We encourage visitors to consult a river outfitter to find these enjoyable areas of the river. The dry conditions don't affect Schlitterbahn, America's #1 water park with over two miles of tubing rides. They have added some brand new ones this year so we're anticipating that will be a big draw, too."
Texans consistently rank the New Braunfels area as one of their favorite vacation destinations because of the variety of summer activities and Young says the area offers a great value for families looking for an economical, affordable getaway for the summer.
More than a quarter of a million people vacation in the area every summer enjoying skiing and wakeboarding at the Texas Ski Ranch, live music venues like Whitewater Music Amphitheater and Gruene Hall, adventure at Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch, the Texas Hill Country wineries and the New Braunfels local culture, festival and special event attractions.
Canyon Lake has all 23 boat ramps around the 80+ miles of shoreline available and the average depth of water in the lake is 909 feet with the lake level just below 906 feet allowing for good boating, skiing and other water activities. The lake is well stocked for fishing, has two public marinas, two military marinas, watercraft rentals, and park sites with pebble beaches.
