WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent Capitol Pulse survey conducted by CNCT and shared by HillFaith offers fresh insight into the ideological alignment between congressional staffers and the members of Congress for whom they work.
The survey findings, analyzed and highlighted by HillFaith, examine how legislative aides across both political parties view their own political perspectives compared to those of the lawmakers for whom they work. The data highlights key trends regarding generational perspectives, internal office dynamics, and ideological self-identification among public servants working on Capitol Hill.
Among the central findings of the survey, 53 percent of Democratic congressional aides under 30 years of age describe themselves as more politically radical than the senators or representatives they serve. Overall, 41 percent of staffers self-identify as "more radical" than their bosses, including 43 percent of all Democratic aides surveyed and 40 percent of Republican aides.
It is important to note that being more radical on the Democratic side indicates support for more activist government, while on the Republican side it indicates support for less government.
New Data Regarding Major Party Ideological Awareness
The survey further highlights distinct structural variations in ideological perception between parties. On the Republican side, self-identified radical alignment appears more frequently among experienced staffers, with 45 percent of aides in operational roles and 43 percent in senior policy positions describing themselves as more radical than their member of Congress. Conversely, on the Democratic side, the distinction correlates more closely with age rather than job function.
Comparing Aide & Representative Personnel Differences
In addition to staffers identifying as more radical, the survey recorded notable proportions of aides who describe themselves as more moderate than their respective members. Approximately 33 percent of Democratic aides and 30 percent of Republican aides marked themselves as holding more moderate views than their bosses.
Meanwhile, staffers indicating that their views remain similar to their member included 37 percent of Republicans and 24 percent of Democrats overall, with 43 percent of Republican female aides and 31 percent of Democratic female aides choosing this category.
