LOS ANGELES, Aug. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- La Ventana Treatment Programs is thrilled to welcome Andrea Kulberg, Ph.D., as Clinical Director of our JCAHO-accredited adolescent mental health and eating disorder programs in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Kulberg brings extraordinary insight and leadership to the La Ventana team, with over 20 years of experience specializing in severe anxiety disorders and eating disorders in children and teens.
Dr. Kulberg is an expert in Family-Based Treatment (FBT), an eating disorder treatment method practiced at our Santa Barbara location that trains parents in effectively managing their child's meal plan and behaviors at home, concurrent with ongoing outpatient care. FBT, also known as the Maudsley approach, was founded in the 1980s and has since proven to be the most effective treatment for severe eating disorders in children and teens.
"La Ventana was built on a vision of helping others and building community. As a parent of two teenagers myself, I value the support of others along the parenting journey," explains Dr. Kulberg. "We want to educate and partner alongside parents, giving them the tools they need to understand these disorders so that they are fully equipped to guide their child through the recovery process."
Our adolescent mental health and eating disorder programs at La Ventana Santa Barbara arm children and teens with the necessary coping skills for long-term recovery through weekly ACT, CBT, DBT, and exposure therapy groups. In addition to weekly individual and family therapy sessions, parent groups include family sculpting, genograms, and other experiential work.
Dr. Kulberg hosts a free Parent Community Group every Tuesday evening from 4:15pm to 5:30pm at La Ventana Santa Barbara, providing parents with education, tools, and support. This group is also open to anyone in the community who would like to know more about our adolescent programs, including school counselors, professionals, family members, or individuals in recovery.
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Dr. Kulberg, who has the depth of both experience and passion to heal those who are suffering from these devastating and debilitating disorders," shares Diahann Klein, MA, LMFT, CEO of La Ventana Treatment Programs. "Her ability to truly partner with teens and families in recovery is invaluable. It is exciting to see our adolescent programs thrive under Dr. Kulberg's leadership."
Join Dr. Kulberg for her upcoming CEU presentation "When OCD Gets Stuck on Food and Body Image… and How to Fix It!" on September 20th (in Santa Monica, California) and October 11th (in Santa Barbara, California). These events are open to professionals and community members alike. Please RSVP or direct any questions to the media contact below.
