ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 23, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading donor-advised fund (DAF) DonorsTrust has launched a $2 million program, the Growth & Resilience Project, that quickly finances projects in key policy areas that support American recovery amidst the COVID-19 crisis. So far, the initiative has granted $800,000 to 20 organizations.
The Growth & Resilience Project supports initiatives focused on improving employment and job creation using economic deregulation and reducing certain barriers to entry. The project is not a donor-advised fund, but rather is a special program funded by DonorsTrust. An advisory committee that utilizes the collective knowledge of the Philanthropy Roundtable, DonorsTrust, Atlas Network and State Policy Network decides which projects to support. The project has also created a legal advisory committee to consider funding litigation where necessary to ensure a balance between civil, economic and religious liberties, and state and local emergency business, travel and health restrictions.
"Our nation's path to recovery must focus on scalable, practical ways to help American workers get back on their feet, encourage entrepreneurs to take risks, and remove barriers to the services most needed right now," said Lawson Bader, president and CEO of DonorsTrust. "Our Growth and Resilience Fund leverages the financial resources of generous donors who understand the value of fighting for free enterprise, and I'm proud of all the groups our initiative has already supported thus far."
Donors are encouraged to make additional contributions beyond the $800,000 already allocated through the Fund. Existing DonorsTrust clients can request a grant from their DAF account to the Growth and Resilience Fund through the usual methods. New donors interested in giving to one of these projects should directly email [email protected]. A full list of supported projects so far can be found here. DonorsTrust has waived any administrative fees for external contributions to this Fund.
Gifts can be made by check, wire, or as a qualified charitable disbursement from an IRA. The project also accepts appreciated stock and other types of appreciated property. Contributions to the Fund are fully tax-deductible as DonorsTrust is a 501(c)(3) public charity.
"Federal and state governments' reactions to this pandemic have not merely ripped our social fabric, they have shredded it," said Bader. "It is our goal to help ensure the nonprofit sector, especially those focused on public policy, do their part to help with structuring and aiding recovery efforts."
