New DriveSense Mobile App Helps Make Users Safer, Smarter Drivers
The first mobile usage-based insurance application by Esurance provides real-time driving data and discounts for safe drivers
SAN FRANCISCO, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Esurance, building on its successful DriveSenseTM device program, announced DriveSense mobile — its first usage-based insurance application downloadable on iOS and Android™ smartphones. DriveSense mobile is available now in Utah, and will roll out to additional states this year.
The new DriveSense mobile application uses smart telematics technology that could help users improve their driving while also rewarding them for being safe and responsible behind the wheel. When they sign up for DriveSense, they automatically receive an initial 5 percent discount. After a customers' first policy term, they could earn a personalized discount every term. The amount varies and is based specifically on their driving, so the safer they drive, the more they will save.

DriveSense automatically senses when the car is in motion and begins logging important driving details like excessive speeding and braking, and the time of day. Through the app, users can gain better visibility into their driving habits right from their phone. Drivers can see how many times they were a bit heavy-footed, when they hit the brakes a little too hard, and how often they have driven lately. Audible notifications are also available to help track and change driving habits in real time. In turn, all this personalized driving info may help make DriveSense users safer, smarter drivers.
The app also includes the following unique features and widgets:
- Risk meter: This gives real-time feedback for risky driving in terms of braking, speed, and time of day.
- Trip history: This widget stores the last 100 trips with a rating such as "nice trip" or "high risk." It also includes an interactive map that highlights the routes taken, number of miles driven, and trip duration, along with driving tips or praise.
- Automatic texts: This feature will automatically send a text to anyone trying to call or text you, letting them know you are currently driving. (Available only on Android phones.)
