New England Biolabs, Journal of Visualized Experiments solicit novel Gibson Assembly applications for open-access video publication contest

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and IPSWICH, Mass., Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In partnership with the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE), New England Biolabs (NEB^®) has invited scientists to submit abstracts detailing their unique applications of its Gibson Assembly^® reagents, for a chance to win a professionally-produced, open-access video publication from JoVE, the most cited, peer-reviewed, video-based journal.

Gibson Assembly was developed by Dr. Daniel Gibson and his colleagues at the J. Craig Venter Institute and licensed to NEB by Synthetic Genomics^®, Inc. (SGI). This technique allows for the successful assembly of multiple DNA fragments, regardless of fragment length or end compatibility. Gibson Assembly was originally introduced in 2009 and has rapidly gained popularity amongst the synthetic biology community, as well as the more general life science community, primarily due to its ease-of-use, robustness and flexibility.

By providing researchers with the opportunity to publish their novel techniques in an open-access format through this video journal, a wider range of scientists will have the chance to learn about Gibson Assembly. Open-access video protocols allow scientists the world over to view and, importantly, easily reproduce the demonstrated technique.
