TORONTO, Jan. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - CTV announced today that its mid-season schedule is about to get SPUN OUT as the network confirmed the second wave of winter premieres airing on CTV and CTV GO. Anchored by CTV's original workplace multi-cam comedy SPUN OUT, the mid-season schedule is packed with laughs as KIDS IN THE HALL alumnus Dave Foley returns to TV as Dave Lyons, the president of Dave Lyons Public Relations (DLPR).

Following the ups and downs of DLPR and the staff who can spin everyone's problem but their own, SPUN OUT launches as a two-part premiere event beginning Thursday, March 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, strategically scheduled following the most-watched television program in Canada, THE BIG BANG THEORY, with the night beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET with a simulcast of TWO AND A HALF MEN . Premiering during Canadian Screen Week, SPUN OUT launches the same night as the return of last year's #1 new Canadian drama and CSA nominee MOTIVE at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Then, SPUN OUT moves to its regular Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT timeslot, paired with the new Kirstie Alley sitcom, KIRSTIE (8:30 p.m. ET/PT), delivering a Friday night comedy power hour.

SPUN OUT and KIRSTIE are joined by another new comedy on CTV's mid-season schedule, the coming-of-age "Mr. Mom" sitcom SURVIVING JACK on March 27. Also on deck are a new season of reality powerhouse THE AMAZING RACE (Feb. 23), and the spring season premieres of fan favourites GREY'S ANATOMY (Feb. 27), and ONCE UPON A TIME (March 9).

CTV also lights up March with marquee live events SUPER BOWL XLVIII (Feb. 2), THE OSCARS® (March 2), and THE 2014 JUNO AWARDS (March 30), and CTV Two's schedule will be bolstered with the return of hit reality competition series THE VOICE (Feb. 24), and the debut of J.J. Abrams' mystical drama BELIEVE (March 10).

In all, four new series, five returning CTV and CTV Two hits, and some of Canada's most-watched tent-pole events join the schedule throughout February and March (scheduling details below).

"Following a strong fall and early success in January, we're excited to cement our mid-season offerings as we continue to deliver the quality original programming and consistent fan favourites our viewers and advertisers have come to expect," said Phil King, President - CTV, Sports, and Entertainment Programming. "We're proud to continue to position our original homegrown series for optimal success, including premiering SPUN OUT following THE BIG BANG THEORY, and scheduling MOTIVE following established hit GREY'S ANATOMY."

Highlighting the second wave of CTV's mid-season schedule:

New to the Schedule:

  • SPUN OUT (Two-Part Premiere: Part One airs Thursday, March 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT; Part Two airs in its regular Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT timeslot on March 7 on CTV and CTV GO; Encores Saturday, March 8 beginning at 9 p.m. ET on CTV before moving to its regular encore timeslot of 8:30 p.m. ET during the comedy block, and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. ET on CTV Two beginning March 9):
Starring KIDS IN THE HALL alumnus Dave Foley, CTV's original multi-cam workplace comedy SPUN OUT follows the ups and downs of DLPR, a public relations agency staffed with people who can spin everyone's problems but their own. No matter how bizarre the cases are that the agency takes on, they pale in comparison to the workplace romances, rivalries, personal successes, and often hilarious failures of the close-knit and dysfunctional colleagues at DLPR. The ensemble cast features some of Canada's top comedic talent, including Paul Campbell (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), Al Mukadam (RADIO FREE ROSCOE), Rebecca Dalton (THE L.A. COMPLEX), J.P. Manoux (COMMUNITY), Darcy Michael (Rapture-Palooza), and Holly Deveaux (LESS THAN KIND).
  • MOTIVE (Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT beginning Thursday, March 6 on CTV and CTV GO):
CTV's original crime drama MOTIVE emerged as last season's #1 new Canadian scripted drama. Returning for its second season, the series continues to follow homicide detective Angie Flynn (Kristin Lehman, THE KILLING) on a backwards chase for clues to a killer that has already been revealed to viewers. Set and shot in Vancouver, Season 2 of the "whydunit" takes the team through 13 exciting new cases, with more complicated killers and intricate crime scenes. Joined this season by a new sergeant (Warren Christie, ALPHAS), who shares a mysterious past with Angie, shakeups at the station shift the balance of relationships across the team. MOTIVE also stars Louis Ferreira (SGU STARGATE UNIVERSE), Lauren Holly (NCIS), and Brendan Penny (THE ASSISTANTS).
  • KIRSTIE (Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT following SPUN OUT, beginning March 7 on CTV and CTV GO):
In Kirstie Alley's (CHEERS) self-titled multi-cam comedy series, Alley navigates the world of Madison "Maddie" Banks, a Broadway star who finds her life turned upside down when Arlo (Eric Petersen, GCB), the son she gave up for adoption 26 years ago, turns up looking to connect after his adopted mother has died. However, Maddie doesn't exactly see nerdy and schlubby Arlo fitting in with her luxurious lifestyle. When her attempt to change Arlo backfires, Maddie finds that perhaps they could both use a little change in their lives. KIRSTIE also stars fellow CHEERS alumnus Rhea Perlman, and sitcom icon Michael Richards (SEINFELD).
  • BELIEVE (Premieres Monday, March 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT; airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT beginning March 16 on CTV Two and CTV GO):
From blockbuster hit producer J.J. Abrams (LOST) and Academy Award®-nominated director Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity), BELIEVE is the story of Bo (newcomer Johnny Sequoyah), a young girl with gifts she has never fully been able to understand or control, including levitation, telekinesis, the ability to control nature, and see the future. Raised by a small group known as the "True Believers," the orphaned girl has been safeguarded by Milton Winter (Delroy Lindo, THE CHICAGO CODE), but with her life and future in jeopardy, he turns to an unlikely source to keep her safe from harmful outsiders who would use her forces for personal gain. As she and her protector Tate (Jake McLaughlin, CRASH), a wrongfully imprisoned death row inmate, travel from city to city, every place and person they come across will be changed forever.
  • SURVIVING JACK (Premieres March 27 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO):
Set in 1990s Southern California, SURVIVING JACK is all about a man becoming a dad, as his son is becoming a man, in a time before "coming of age" was something you could Google. Jack Dunlevy (EMMY® Award-nominee Christopher Meloni, LAW & ORDER: SVU) has always been the parent who's left for work early, come home late, eaten the big piece of chicken, yelled at his kids, and gone to bed. But after years of deftly raising and running the family, his wife is going back to law school, leaving Jack as a full-time parent for the very first time. Based on best-selling author Justin Halpern's autobiographical book, I Suck at Girls, SURVIVING JACK also stars Connor Buckley (DECEPTION).

Event Programming:

CTV culminates its broadcast of the 2013-14 NFL season with exclusive Canadian coverage of SUPER BOWL XLVIII featuring the AFC Champions Denver Broncos taking on the NFC Champions Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Feb. 2 (pre-game coverage begins at 12 noon ET; game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. ET).

The stars will be out for one of the biggest live events of the year during THE OSCARS, hosted by the hilarious Ellen Degeneres (The Ellen DeGeneres Show), airing live from the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood on Sunday, March 2 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CTV, following OSCARS RED CARPET LIVE beginning at 7 p.m. ET. ETALK's Ben Mulroney will also deliver all the celebrity interviews from the carpet during ETALK AT THE OSCARS (airing on CTV Two Ontario at 6 p.m. ET, CTV Two Atlantic at 7 p.m. AT, and on CTV BC at 3 p.m. PT, and CTV Alberta at 4 p.m. MT), while celebrity arrivals are captured from an exclusive balcony position. And the biggest stars of Canadian music take centre stage on Sunday, March 30 during THE 2014 JUNO AWARDS, broadcast live from the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

Then, weekdays at 12:30 a.m. ET, Seth Meyers hosts LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS (Feb. 24), and KEVIN NEWMAN LIVE also joins the CTV schedule airing weeknights at 2:30 a.m. ET following its 9 p.m. ET CTV News Channel broadcast beginning Monday, Feb. 3, with an additional best of episode airing weekly on Sundays at 12 p.m. ET.

Returning Series:

  • THE VOICE (Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT beginning Feb. 24 on CTV Two and CTV GO):
THE VOICE is back for Season 6, promising loads of song and spectacle. Shakira and Usher re-join coaches Blake Shelton and last season's champ Adam Levine.
  • THE AMAZING RACE (Sundays at 8 p.m. beginning Feb. 23 on CTV and CTV GO):
Hosted by Phil Keoghan, the popular reality series returns and 11 former teams are back for another sprint around the globe on this special All-Star themed edition.
  • SAVING HOPE - Season 2 Finale (Special Time: Thursday, Feb. 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. AT/MT, and 9 p.m. CT on CTV and CTV GO):
In the final must-see episode of the season, Dawn (Michelle Nolden) diagnoses Alex (Erica Durance) with an irregular heartbeat and she's supposed to be resting - but before she gets the chance, The Great Randall (guest star Peter Keleghan, MURDOCH MYSTERIES) returns to Hope Zion Hospital after an experimental cancer treatment goes wrong. Meanwhile, Charlie (Michael Shanks) struggles with the implications of his fight with Joel (Daniel Gillies), who is trying to treat a troubled mathematician. Then, in a dramatic turn of events, one of Hope Zion's staff is attacked and their life is left hanging in the balance.

February also signals the return of all-new episodes of fan favourites GREY'S ANATOMY (Feb. 27), followed by ONCE UPON A TIME (March 9) on CTV and CTV GO.
