New Poetry Collection Explores Healing After Life's Hardest Moments

"Refine" offers readers an unfiltered look at the resilience of the human spirit

WILLIS, Texas, Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Author Katie Guilbault has released "Refine: An Anthology of Learning Life's Lessons the Hard Way," a collection of poetry and prose that explores grief, healing, motherhood, love, faith, mental health and self-discovery through reflections inspired by her personal experiences. In the book, Guilbault examines how life's greatest challenges can shape personal growth while encouraging readers to reflect on their own experiences with loss, resilience and transformation.

Organized as a series of poems and reflective essays, "Refine" follows Guilbault through childhood memories, changing family dynamics, motherhood, relationships and personal struggles. The collection addresses topics including mental health, generational trauma, divorce, body image, forgiveness and hope while documenting the experiences that have shaped her perspective over time.

"My goal is to give language to the parts of healing that people often experience in silence," Guilbault said. "I hope readers see pieces of their own story reflected and feel encouraged to continue refining who they are becoming."

Rather than presenting healing as a destination, Guilbault portrays it as an ongoing process marked by setbacks, reflection and personal growth. Each poem and prose piece builds on the last, creating a narrative that follows the author's journey from heartbreak and uncertainty to renewed purpose and hope. The collection encourages readers to reflect on their own lives while considering how even difficult experiences can become sources of wisdom and transformation.

"Healing is not linear, and every difficult season has shaped who I am today," Guilbault said. "I want readers to know that honest self-examination is necessary for transformation."
