New Study Confirms Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery, The McGinn Technique (MICS CABG), as a Safe and Feasible Procedure

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A new study published by The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery confirms MICS CABG (minimally invasive cardiac surgery/coronary artery bypass grafting) is a safe and feasible procedure that ensures positive outcomes.  Published on Nov 1^st, the article brings light to the open-heart surgery alternative pioneered by Medical Director and cardiothoracic surgeon, Joseph T. McGinn of The Heart Institute at Staten Island University Hospital.

The two-year study included 91 participants between ages 48 and 79 that underwent MICS CABG. Post-operative results illustrated 92% of participants were free from angina, a condition of severe pain in chest or any other part of the body due to lack of blood supply to the heart.  Furthermore, none of the patients experienced any aortic complications, repeat revascularizations, cerebrovascular accidents, myocardial infarctions or death.
