Presented at the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, the findings could help millions of men
DALLAS, Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Judson Brandeis, MD, board-certified urologist and internationally recognized expert in men's sexual medicine, presented new clinical research last week at the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas. The research revealed that when a nitric oxide–boosting supplement (AFFIRM) is taken with sildenafil (Viagra®), the combination improves erectile quality by 34% without increasing side effects.
Tens of millions of men worldwide use PDE-5 inhibitors such as Viagra® and Cialis® to treat erectile dysfunction. Millions of men cannot tolerate full doses due to side effects like headache, flushing, and reflux, limiting the medications' effectiveness.
Dr. Brandeis's study evaluated 22 men, with an average age of 55, who took sildenafil 40 mg alone for two nights, followed by two nights of sildenafil 40 mg and two AFFIRM tablets containing L-citrulline, red beet root extract, Panax ginseng, and Muira puama. Men wore the FirmTech TechRing®, a smart wearable that tracks firmness and duration of nighttime erections, to evaluate erectile quality.
The Results:
- 34% stronger erections when AFFIRM was combined with Viagra® (p=0.00004)
- 20% more frequent nighttime erections (p=0.034)
- No increase in side effects reported
"This study provides the first objective evidence that combining a nitric oxide–boosting supplement, like AFFIRM, with a PDE-5 inhibitor like Viagra® can improve erectile quality without adding side effects," said Dr. Brandeis. "For many of my patients, this is life-changing because they can enjoy the benefits of Viagra at lower doses, feeling more confident, more connected, and more like themselves again."
Erectile dysfunction affects more than 30 million men in the U.S. alone. As the population ages, safe, non-pharmaceutical approaches to improving sexual health are gaining momentum. This study suggests that nitric oxide–boosting supplements, such as AFFIRM, could play a key role in next-generation men's health solutions.
This study was industry-initiated, executed, and funded by BrandeisMD. Dr. Brandeis is President of AFFIRM Science.
