NEW YORK, Jan. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- 25 people are injured as the result of a head-on collision involving an MTA bus and a BMW, The New York Post is reporting. (25 Injured in Brooklyn Bus Crash, January 7, 2015). According to reports, three people were left in critical condition while 22 other suffered less serious injuries. Stories of bloodied, moaning passengers being removed from the bus and being taken to the hospital were told after the collision, which took place on Utica Avenue near Clarendon Road in East Flatbush.
Reportedly the black BMW was traveling southbound on Utica and first struck a Nissan Maxima as it was backing out of a grocery store. The impact from the initial collision sent the BMW head-on into the bus as it headed north. Witnesses described the scene as horrific and seemed to place the blame on the two car drivers, alleging the bus driver did nothing wrong. An investigation is still underway.
"Fortunately it seems at least nobody was killed, and we hope that everyone has a full recovery," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "If what the initial claims are stating turns out to be true, it makes one wonder when people will ever seriously consider just how dangerous it is to drive at high speeds on crowded streets. I am hesitant to make too many assumptions here, but please, to everyone else on the road, think about others when you get behind the wheel."
"As the investigation unfolds and people begin their treatments and recovery, many may begin to wonder what action they can take legally. In any accident, victims have the right to be compensated, and they should not hesitate to seek the compensation they need and deserve. Especially in accidents involving the city, filing a claim can be tricky, and if you are injured, you would be wise to hire a legal advocate to fight on your behalf. The right lawyer will know exactly what steps to take, how to prove your claim, and will have the best chance at getting you the maximum compensation as quickly as possible. There are virtually no barriers to accessing an attorney, as you only ever pay a personal injury attorney a fee if your claim is successful, so there truly is no reason not to pick up the phone and start protecting your rights immediately."
