New York City's First-ever Chief Technology Officer Minerva Tantoco Answers the Burning Question: What Does it Mean to be a Smart City?
New York City's CTO and Head of the Mayor's Office of Technology and Innovation to Keynote CE Week Conference Program on June 23, 2016
NEW YORK, May 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With the number of connected devices expected to exceed 50 billion by 2020, cities everywhere are ramping up, embracing innovation and the tech spirit. Under the leadership of New York City's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Minerva Tantoco, the Mayor's Office of Technology and Innovation is working toward Mayor de Blasio's vision of making New York City the most innovative, tech-friendly and equitable big city in the world. In her keynote address at CE Week 2016, New York City's most prominent consumer technology event, Tantoco will address what it means to be a smart city, share what New York City has on its tech docket, and explain why the next wave of innovation will demand technology and government partnerships.

As CTO, Tantoco is responsible for the development and implementation of a coordinated citywide strategy on technology and innovation and encouraging collaboration across agencies and with the wider New York City technology ecosystem.

With 30 years in technology, Ms. Tantoco started her first software company in 1985, and recently served as CTO of global financial services firm UBS and Merrill Lynch. She is a strong advocate for encouraging more women to become involved with technology, and believes that technology can be used to spread knowledge and improve education, especially in underserved communities, and that artificial intelligence applied to the massively growing amount of systems, data, and interconnections offers capabilities of which we have yet to dream.
