The court's ruling, which comes almost exactly seven years after the deadly crash, found that Lomma, who is the head of NY Crane & Equipment Co., personally approved the vendor who supplied a substandard bearing on the crane and hired someone with an eighth-grade education to oversee the crane's operation. The jury is still to decide whether or not to award punitive damages, which are being sought.
