New York Home Care Service Announces Client-Managed Care Option Via CDPAP
Special Touch Home Care Services Inc. launches Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) for clients who wish to utilize relatives and friends as paid caregivers.
NEW YORK, June 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Special Touch Home Care Services, Inc., a home health care service serving the five boroughs of NYC, has expanded its range of services to include the CDPAP program. CDPAP stands for "Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program," and is a program that allows home healthcare clients a maximum level of independence by being able to choose who cares for them, and giving those chosen caregivers an income for providing care.

"One major benefit of this program is that it allows the family members or close friends of a client to take care of them. This helps caregivers who may need to make a choice between taking care of a loved one or working a job – with the Special Touch CDPAP program, a caregiver can earn an income while tending to the needs of their loved one," said Special Touch Home Care Executive Director Evan Ostrovsky.
When it comes to selecting the caregivers, the choice is now up to the client, who would be responsible for screening, hiring and (if necessary) terminating their caregiver. They are also responsible for ensuring their caregiver follows the rules of the CDPAP program and follows the plan of care that is provided for them.
There are several requirements that a client must meet if they wish to qualify for the CDPAP Program. They include the following:
- Be enrolled in Medicaid
- Be eligible for long term home health care services
- Be self directing or have a designated representative that will manage care
- Need some or total assistance with one or more personal care services, home health aide services or skilled nursing tasks
