Shawna Lynn Parker reportedly claimed she was unable to work as a store clerk due to a foot injury that prevented her from being able to put any weight on her foot or wear shoes at all, but was then later spotted walking across a stage at the Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix contest.

Palmer then allegedly went back to a doctor and received crutches, only to compete in a second contest later. Byron Tucker, California's deputy insurance commissioner, was quoted as saying that social media made it not difficult to track down the fraud and make the arrest. Palmer was allegedly charged with three felony counts of defrauding an insurance company and could face up to one year in jail, three years probation, and restitution of $24,000.
