New York's Central Park Hosts 16th Annual Spring Run in Support of Humanitarian Organization Concern Worldwide
NEW YORK, March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 12, hundreds of people will be in Central Park at the 16th Annual Concern Spring Run, a four-mile run and walk in support of Concern Worldwide and the work that it does to improve the conditions of people living in world's poorest countries and areas affected by war, conflict, and natural disaster.
"Every year, I am so moved by the number of people who turn their concern into action and make a difference in the lives of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world by running, walking, or volunteering at the Spring Run," says Dr. Joseph Cahalan, CEO of Concern Worldwide U.S. "The community of people involved in the Spring Run has grown every year since it started 15 years ago and we hope that this year will be our biggest turnout yet. Each and every runner and walker makes an impact on what we can do on the ground."
Registration for the race is open for all individual walkers and runners, teams, and sponsors at concernusa.org/springrun. Concern hopes to raise $215,000 this year in support of its programs through the Spring Run. All donations, including the registration fee ($30 for individuals/$25 for team members), will support Concern's work across 25 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.
Many New York City businesses and organizations such as Accenture, Brooklyn Brewery, Credit Suisse, Everyday Health, LinkedIn, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Irish Business Organization, Irish Network NYC, Irish America Magazine, Irish Central Community News, JP Morgan Chase, Urban Athletics, Tait, Weller & Baker, Xerox, and many more have entered the Spring Run. Corporations, pubs, schools, and friends and family can all enter as teams and compete in their category for most funds raised. A prize is also given to the individual who raises the most money.
The race kicks off at 9:30 am and ends with an after-party at New York City's East End Bar, which includes a free buffet-style breakfast for all event participants.
