ATLANTA, Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Newell Rubbermaid (NYSE: NWL) has been recognized for supply chain excellence with the 2010 Consumer Goods Technology (CGT) "Dick Clark Supply Chain Award," presented at the Consumer Goods Business and Technology Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. on October 26.  Each year the award honors the consumer goods company that best demonstrates excellence in executing improvements in supply and demand planning, execution or network design.

The award marks an important milestone for Newell Rubbermaid and its supply chain organization, which launched a sales and operations planning improvement initiative in 2008. This initiative has delivered double-digit decreases in inventory, significant increases in forecast accuracy, higher inventory turns and improved customer service levels throughout the company's global businesses.

"Newell Rubbermaid is honored to receive the CGT Dick Clark Supply Chain Award in recognition of our growth and improvement towards best-in-class supply chain and demand planning capabilities," said Andrew Downard, Director of Supply Chain at Newell Rubbermaid.  "Our recent supply chain optimization initiative allows Newell Rubbermaid to drive best cost and greater efficiency across the organization, which enables us to better partner with our retail customers."

The sales and operations planning initiative also improved cash flow, helping the company generate 30 percent more cash in 2009 for a total of $603 million despite the economic downturn. Now entering its second major phase, the initiative focuses on achieving further improvements in forecasting, inventory optimization and overall supply chain responsiveness.
