NewSchool of Architecture and Design Appoints Dean
Christopher Genik, AIA, Brings Academic and Practice Background
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD) has selected Christopher Genik, AIA, award-winning architect, educator and academic leader, as its dean. Genik will be the senior academic officer responsible for the leadership and operation of NSAD's programs starting Oct. 4, 2010.
"Chris has been a successful practitioner and academic who has built effective teams and stayed on the leading edge of the profession," said NSAD President Dr. Steven Altman. "He will bring these talents and a strong vision for the future to NewSchool."
Genik joins NSAD after eight years as a professor and director of the undergraduate architecture program at Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. He is also a principal, partner and co-founder of Daly Genik Architects in Santa Monica, Calif. The firm, which began in 1990, focuses on craft, construction systems and material research in work that highlights the interrelationships of research and fabrication, material and form, sustainability and livability. Its work is widely recognized and received a national American Institute of Architects (AIA) Honor Award, a Gold Medal for Urban Excellence from the Bruner Foundation and four design awards from the AIA/LA in 2008.
Genik served on the studio faculties at the University of Michigan, Carleton University, Rice University, the University of Southern California and the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a frequent speaker and juror nationally.

Genik received a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Carleton University. He also holds baccalaureates from Lycee Francais de Londres and Lycee Francais de Barcelona.
