NGA Selected to Implement Future-Ready Emergency System in Leon County

New 9-1-1 platform supports smarter call routing, increased reliability, and future connectivity across Florida's emergency network

TALLAHASSEE, Fla, Aug. 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Leon County has selected NGA to deploy a Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) system, a major step in modernizing the County's emergency communications infrastructure to support faster, more resilient and more precise response capabilities.

The NG911 system will replace decades-old legacy infrastructure and will simultaneously support voice, text, and, in the years ahead, video communications and multi-language translation and transcription. Location-based routing helps direct calls to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) more quickly and with greater precision, providing 9-1-1 dispatchers with critical information and improving their situational awareness, which greatly benefits the communities they serve. The new platform is designed with redundancies and automatic failover, reducing the risk of service disruptions.

The new system will serve both primary and secondary PSAPs, including the City of Tallahassee, Florida A&M University, Florida State University, and the Capitol Police. The project also positions the County for future interoperability with statewide and regional emergency networks as Florida continues its NG911 evolution. Phased deployment will begin later this year.

Leon County will also benefit from the rollout of NEXiSConnect — the newly enhanced platform, bringing a more intuitive user experience, streamlined management tools and real-time visibility into service-level performance. This upgrade ensures agency stakeholders have the tools they need to make timely, informed decisions and improve outcomes for the communities they serve.
