Beth Fitzgerald has been healthcare reporter and deputy editor for NJBIZ magazine for the last three years. Before that she was a news and business reporter for more than 30 years at the Newark (NJ) Star-Ledger.
NJ Spotlight's addition of Beth to its team is, in part, funded by a grant from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, which is dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations in the greater Newark area.
Fitzgerald brings to NJ Spotlight (www.njspotlight.com) another core area for its daily coverage of in-depth news, analysis, and information. The site in its first year has gained a reputation for thoughtful and comprehensive reporting on education, energy, environment and public finance. NJ Spotlight recently won the prestigious Online Journalism Award for "general excellence" for news sites its size.
"This is a great opportunity for us, and Beth is just the right person to take us to the next level with our health coverage," said John Mooney, founding editor of NJ Spotlight and its education writer. "With important public health and healthcare issues facing the state, Beth brings the experience, the talent, and the respect to our next key area of focus."
