The decision not to extract is what separates Safralis from the rest of the market. When you extract saffron you concentrate some compounds but lose others, and you can only extract what the plant makes naturally. Rather than build the most potent extract, Nootropics Depot went looking for the best raw material first. Saffron is prized for its color and aroma, and those qualities indicate the level of its bioactives, so the starting material determines the ceiling.

To preserve that material, Safralis is cold-milled: the mill is chilled and the threads are ground with acacia fiber, which stabilizes the volatile safranal. Botanical identity is verified by HPTLC, and the product was developed in partnership with the scientists at Omnient Labs, who created more advanced methods for testing the bioactives in saffron. Safranal is measured together with its precursors picrocrocin and HTCC.
Securing whole Mongra stigma at this standard required control of the source. Kashmir produces less than 1% of the world saffron supply, and Mongra is a small fraction of that output. Safralis is offered in two strengths: 15 mg and 30 mg capsules. It can be taken once or twice a day. Both capsules deliver the same 8% crocins and 3% safranals. We decided to offer 15mg capsules, because the 30mg ones are a bit too strong for some people. It also allows for the ability to split the dose into morning and evening.
