North Texas Recycling Complex Earns Top Industry Award for Recycling Excellence

GRAPEVINE, Texas, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Republic Services' North Texas Recycling Complex was named winner today of the Solid Waste Association of North America's Gold Award for Recycling Excellence. The Award recognizes a North American facility with the most outstanding environmental and economically sound solid waste management practices, and that demonstrates innovation in recycling technologies and processes. The Award is being presented this morning at WASTECON, an annual industry conference held this year at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center.

The North Texas Recycling Complex is home to a technologically advanced single-stream recycling system powered by 150 high-efficiency motors. Designed by The CP Group, the system utilizes a highly-automated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition capability, which enables operators to continually monitor the material sorting process, and automate the baling and storage of finished commodities. The system is capable of processing more than 500 tons of materials per day, or more than 140,000 tons of materials each year.

The North Texas Recycling Complex was officially dedicated on Sept. 10, 2013, and serves more than 350,000 households throughout Dallas, Denton, Parker, and Tarrant counties. The 90,000 square foot, LEED certified facility employs more than 40 full-time personnel, and offers a unique Learning Center for the community to experience a rare, up-close view of the recycling process.
