Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters to Hold Rochester Training Center Open House

ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) will hold a Carpentry Training Center Open House on Friday, April 28^th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to discuss opportunities and skills training for Rochester-based individuals who are seeking to start a career in the carpentry industry.

The open house, held at the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters' Training Facility (21 Jetview Drive, Rochester, New York), will host 20 state and local elected officials along with area contractors. The Honorable State Assemblyman Harry Bronson (Assembly District-138) and the Honorable State Senator Joseph Robach (Senate District-56) will address the attendees of the open house regarding the need to create more training and career opportunities for carpenter apprentices in the Rochester region.  Additional guest speakers include: Michael Cinquanti, NRCC Director of Policy and Planning and James Hayes, NRCC New York Apprenticeship Director. Cinquanti and Hayes will highlight NRCC's initiatives and specialty programs to promote apprenticeships in construction.

The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters offers skills training throughout New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania for carpenter apprentices to hone their craft and enhance their knowledge in the field. NRCC's Apprenticeship program, is a 4-5 year accredited training curriculum that requires individuals to annually complete approximately 140 hours in the classroom and 1,000-2,000 hours of on-the-job training with skilled union carpenters. Apprenticeship specializations include: general carpentry; cabinet making; flooring; pile driving/dock building; millwrights; and trade show. NRCC training centers are located in New York (Elma, Hauppage, Horseheads, Rock Tavern, Rochester and Albany), New Jersey (Kenilworth and Hammonton), Delaware (New Castle and Georgetown), Maryland (Baltimore, Upper Marlboro) and Pennsylvania (Allentown and Philadelphia).

NRCC also offers a Pre-Apprenticeship program for men and women who previously would not consider carpentry as a career path. On May 1^st, NRCC will launch classes in Rochester for its Sisters in the Brotherhood program, a six-week training course that prepares women to become carpenter apprentices. The 40-hour per week course trains women carpenters in a variety of in-class curriculum and hands-on training in mathematics, occupational safety and hazards, hand/power tool training and job-site culture. After successful completion of the program, women carpenters graduate to the NRCC Apprenticeship program.
