Northern Virginia Technology Council Announces Greater Washington Technology CFO Award Winners

Ted Leonsis and CFOs of CIT, Datatel, GeoEye and HP Enterprise Services Honored for Excellence in Promoting the Region’s Technology Community

HERNDON, Va., June 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) announced today the winners of the 14th Annual Greater Washington Technology CFO Awards, held last night at The Ritz-Carlton in McLean, Virginia. The CFO Awards recognize local chief financial officers and financial executives for outstanding achievement and excellence in promoting the area's technology community. In addition, Ted Leonsis was honored as the winner of the Michael G. Devine Hall of Fame award for his role as a businessman and technology pioneer, as well as for his leadership in the local community.

The winners are as follows:

Public Company CFO of the Year: Joseph Greeves, GeoEye – As Executive Vice President and CFO of GeoEye, Joe is responsible for the management and direction of the company’s financial planning, corporate finance, accounting, fiscal reporting and public company disclosure requirements. Since becoming CFO in June 2009, Joe has been instrumental in rebuilding GeoEye’s financial reporting infrastructure, after a restatement that left the company’s stock trading well below current levels. During the past year, he led the refinancing of GeoEye’s debt and managed an IRS appeal yielding the company a $40 million income tax receivable. In addition, Joe led the process to obtain financing commitments related to the Company’s response to a request-for-proposal from the U.S. Government to build a new satellite.  

Private Company CFO of the Year: Kevin Boyce, Datatel, Inc. – As Datatel’s CFO, Kevin oversees the Corporate Resources Division and plays a senior role in the company’s strategic growth and operational initiatives. In 2009, Kevin helped Datatel achieve record revenues and profits with year over year revenue and EBITDA growth of 7.4 percent and 20 percent, respectively. Through his efforts, Datatel was sold for $570 million in December 2009, earning investors four times on their initial investment from April 2005. In June 2009, prior to the sale, Kevin refinanced Datatel’s $35 million revolving credit facility for $1.2 million and extended the term one year from April 2010 to April 2011, helping the company to avoid over $6 million in interest expense during this annual period and a complete refinancing of its existing term loan bank debt. 

Group/Division CFO of the Year: Marilyn Crouther, HP Enterprise Services – As CFO for HP Enterprise Services U.S. Public Sector, Marilyn is responsible for planning and directing all financial accounting business within the division and managing more than $3 billion in annual revenues. She is instrumental in the strategic planning process and plays an integral role in developing the division’s three-year plan and long-term growth strategies. In 2009, Marilyn played a key role in the integration of EDS into Hewlett Packard. In 2009, she contributed to exceeding the operational profit target set by the corporation for HP Enterprise Services U.S. Public Sector region.

Community Service Award: Linda Gentry, Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) – As CFO of CIT, Linda provides leadership and policy development for technology-based strategies for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Linda serves on the Boards of the Montessori School of Alexandria, Inc. and the SkillSource Group, as well as on the Finance Committee of Capital Hospice. She previously served on the Board of ServiceSource, an organization supporting people with disabilities and as Director of Logistics for the Ride to Thrive Polo Classic, helping to raise $50,000 for the Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program. Since 2000, Linda has been involved with the strategic direction of Leadership Fairfax, Inc (LFI), where in addition to helping create the Emerging Leaders Institute, she provides leadership to LFI’s largest fundraising activity, the Northern Virginia Leadership Award program, which nets approximately $125,000 of funding for LFI activities.

Michael G. Devine Hall of Fame Award: Ted Leonsis – Ted Leonsis has made a major difference in our community, creating and growing companies, energizing our local sports world and giving generously as a philanthropist. Known as one of the country's premier businessmen and a pioneer in the Internet industry, Ted held numerous leadership positions at AOL, from which he recently retired as Vice Chairman Emeritus. He is also Chairman of Revolution Money and Clearspring Technologies.  

Ted is the founder, chairman and majority owner of Lincoln Holdings LLC, a sports and entertainment company that holds ownership rights in several Washington, D.C., entities, including 100 percent of the Washington Capitals and the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, and, as of yesterday, 100 percent of the NBA’s Washington Wizards, D.C.’s Verizon Center and the Baltimore-Washington Ticketmaster franchise.

Ted is very involved with numerous charities, including Best Buddies, Hoop Dreams, See Forever Foundation, Venture Philanthropy Partners, YouthAIDS and others through the work of the Leonsis Foundation. As the producer of the films “Kicking It” and "Nanking," which received the Documentary Editing Award at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, Ted coined the phrase "filmanthropy" to describe a new category of filmmaking that sheds light on important issues to activate discussion and recruit new volunteers and donors to benefit a social cause.
