Northrop Grumman Hosting Employment Symposium for Wounded Warriors at Fort Hood

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is hosting an employment transition boot camp and career fair for wounded warriors, ending tomorrow, in Fort Hood, Texas. The boot camp, which began on Tuesday, offers wounded warriors one-to-one interaction and covered topics such as translating military skills; the culture outside the military; resume preparation; and mock interviewing. Tomorrow, a career fair will be held first for wounded warriors and later opened up to all transitioning military.

This is the sixth year that Northrop Grumman has held a boot camp for wounded warriors at Fort Hood. There are an estimated 3,000 wounded warriors at Fort Hood. Earlier this year Northrop Grumman held boot camps for wounded warriors at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and Quantico, Virginia.

The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 2013 the unemployment rate for Gulf War-era II veterans with disabilities (those who served since 2001) was 8.6 percent, versus 9 percent for other veterans.

In 2005, Northrop Grumman created Operation IMPACT (Injured Military Pursuing Assisted Career Transition) a unique, award-winning diversity program focused on assisting severely wounded service members and their families as they transition from the military to the private-sector. In 2009, Northrop Grumman started the Operation IMPACT Network of Champions, to partner with other companies and expand employment opportunities for veterans with disabilities. Today, 85 companies take part in this network and many are participating in the job symposium at Fort Hood.

In July, Northrop Grumman sponsored the Northern Virginia Technology Council Employment Initiative to accelerate veterans' transition to civilian life by creating more employment opportunities with Virginia technology companies.
