Northwestern Memorial HealthCare Announces Board Appointments

Changes include new appointments and the welcoming of new members

CHICAGO, Jan. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Northwestern Memorial HealthCare today announced changes to the compositions of its board of directors and the boards of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Foundation and Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.

Carol L. Bernick, CEO, Polished Nickel Capital Management LLC has been appointed as the new chair for Northwestern Memorial HealthCare board of directors. Bernick was first elected to the board in 1995 and served until 2007. In 2007, she was elected to Northwestern Memorial Hospital's board and served until 2010, the year she returned to the Northwestern Memorial HealthCare board. Bernick is also founder, past president and a current director of Friends of Prentice, a fundraising board she created in 1987 in support of women's health research and programming for Northwestern Memorial's Prentice Women's Hospital. 

Northwestern Memorial HealthCare also announced the appointment of William J. Brodsky, chairman and CEO, Chicago Board Options Exchange as chair, board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Brodsky was first elected to the Northwestern Memorial HealthCare board of directors in 1994 and served until 2007, when he began his service on the hospital's board of directors. Brodsky also chaired the hospital's investment committee for 14 years.

Northwestern Memorial HealthCare also announced the following appointments:

• Ellen S. Alberding, president, The Joyce Foundation named to the board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Foundation;
• Kermit R. Crawford, president, Pharmacy Services, Walgreens named to board of directors of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital;
• Anthony B. Davis, partner and founder, Linden LLC named to board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Foundation; 
• Albert M. Friedman, president and CEO, Friedman Properties Ltd. named to board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Foundation;
• Judy Greffin, chief investment officer, Allstate named to board of directors of  Northwestern Memorial Foundation;
• Stephanie Lieber, vice president individual giving, Chicago Children's Museum named as chair, Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation and the board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Foundation;
• Sean D. O'Connor, M.D., internal medicine, Northwestern Memorial Hospital named to the board of directors of Northwestern HealthCare Corporation, which contracts with managed care payors on behalf of the hospital's medical staff and coordinates efforts to ensure the highest quality clinical care and physician service.
• Anne Pramaggiore, president, ComEd named to board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Hospital;
• Lewis Steverson, senior vice president and general counsel, Motorola named to boards of directors of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Foundation;
• Katie Surkamer, current president, Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Women's Board named to board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Foundation;
• Jason Tyler, head of corporate strategy, Northern Trust named to board of directors of Northwestern Memorial Foundation.
