Most laboratories are going digital. Very few are all the way there. Roughly one in ten U.S. laboratories has adopted digital pathology, according to the College of American Pathologists.

Digital pathology now has more than 40 Category III add-on codes, a formal recognition that going digital adds work to the laboratory rather than removing it.
