NRMP to Host 2025 Transition to Residency Conference in Washington, DC

The NRMP Conference convenes undergraduate and graduate medical education professionals to discuss strategies and innovations in the transition to residency.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) is hosting its annual Transition to Residency: Conversations Across the Medical Education Continuum conference in Washington, DC, on October 11-12, 2025. This two-day event will bring together physician trainees, program directors, medical school faculty and advisors, and other medical education stakeholders to explore strategies and innovations that facilitate the transition to residency and ensure support of a robust physician workforce.

This year marks 10 years that NRMP has been connecting with the undergraduate and graduate medical education communities through its Transition to Residency meeting, with themes that explore how the UME and GME communities can advocate for greater access and training opportunities, pursue innovation, and collectively celebrate the past while building a stronger transition for the future. This year's theme, "Changing World. Changing Vision," encourages attendees to contemplate how the nation's shifting health priorities impact medical education and how educators and learners can ensure the transition to residency continues to flourish, even during uncertainty and change.

This year's plenary speakers include

• Peter Hotez, MD, PhD, DSc Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Co-Director of the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development, Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine, and Author
• Abraham Nussbaum, MD Physician and Chief Education Officer at Denver Health, Teacher and Professor at University of Colorado School of Medicine, and Writer

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with NRMP leadership both in a townhall session and throughout the meeting. Breakout sessions will span a range of topics including AI and other technology in recruitment, training, and practice; readiness for residency; learner and faculty wellness; and best practices in advising and application. Attendees can also support the United Way National Capital Area through a planned philanthropy event and meet and network with trainees and attendees at a poster presentation and cocktail reception.
