Nuvision Credit Union Kicks Off The 2018 Essay Challenge Scholarship Program

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Feb. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- For a third year in a row, Nuvision Credit Union is hosting the Essay Challenge Scholarship Program for students at participating high schools in Los Angeles and Orange County.

This unique contest not only offers participants an opportunity to earn money to invest in their future, it also includes a series of assemblies and financial workshops to help them and their families better prepare for life.

"The Essay Challenge Scholarship Program represents part of our ongoing commitment to invest in the communities we serve," said Attila Morgan, Nuvision's Manager of Community Engagement and Public Relations. "It provides financial support to the winning students and their schools, and through the workshops and assemblies we're giving students and their families tools that can help them every day."

The high schools participating in the contest this year are: Bell Gardens High School, Cabrillo High School, Carson High School, City Honors College Preparatory Academy, Lakewood High School, Marina High School, Mater Dei High School, Oxford Academy and Schurr High School.

The topic for the essay contest will be given at the financial workshops taking place at the schools throughout February and March. The workshops will feature talks by Olympic Gold Medalist Ron Brown, former NFL great Terrell Thomas and Thomas Williams, and local business leaders and luminaries.

The top 10 essays from each school will be entered into an online contest and voted on by the public with the winner announced on May 2^nd. The winning essay will receive a $5,000 scholarship, 10 runner-ups will receive $500 each, and the 15 honorable mentions will each receive $100.
