Oakland Mayor Jean Quan On-Hand for Historic Unveiling and Community Launch for "The Town's Half Marathon"
City Officials, Community Leaders and Running Enthusiasts celebrate the 13.1 mile race and downtown cultural festival as a landmark community event which supports the city's revitalization efforts.
OAKLAND, Calif., May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Project Sport, LLC, an Oakland-based event production company, along with Mayor Jean Quan, City Officials, Community Leaders and nearly one hundred Running Enthusiasts unveiled the highly-anticipated route and event details for the city's first annual "The Town's Half Marathon" at a community launch event at the FOX Theater. The 13.1 mile race through Oakland's historic and urban neighborhoods and downtown cultural festival at City Hall will be a landmark community event in support of the city's revitalization efforts.

"We've been working closely with local City Officials and meeting with Community Leaders and Running Enthusiasts to carefully design and plan a one-of-a-kind experience that showcases the best of Oakland. Our route will take racers through iconic areas of the city before a thrilling musical finish and cultural festival on the steps of City Hall with local wineries, craft beer, artisan chefs and live music," added Dawkins.
Spanning 13.1 miles from start to finish, the route will be known as "Tour of Oakland" and will be the city's first hyper-local route experience. Iconic areas along the route include Jack London Square, Downtown, City Center, Uptown, Piedmont Ave, Temescal Alley & Telegraph Ave and Grand Ave from Pleasant Valley to Lake Merritt with a finish at Frank Ogawa Plaza.

The race and festival will take place on August 16, 2014 and participants who complete the course will receive an official finisher medal.
