Fairgoers can sample final two Cass-Clay Ice Cream Dream Contest flavors with celebrity judges choosing the winner as part of National Ice Cream Month
FARGO, N.D., July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The first-ever Cass-Clay Ice Cream Dream Flavor is near completion and the top two flavors are ready for sampling. Oil Patch Prairie Praline and Buffalo Chip are vying for the chance to be added to the Cass-Clay Creamery line-up and sold at grocery stores around North Dakota. Local residents created these flavors and the winner will be selected at the North Dakota State Fair during a live event on July 24.
Fairgoers can stop by the Cass-Clay event being held on the Dakota Talent Stage on Tuesday, July 24 between 3 – 6 p.m. to taste the two final flavors. At 4 p.m. the grand prize winner will be chosen by a celebrity judging panel. The judging panel will feature Miss Rodeo North Dakota State 2012, Kayla Kessler, KXMC-TV anchor, Perry Olson, and North Dakota's 2011-2012 State Dairy Princess, Rachael Rott.
"These final two flavors really embody what North Dakota is all about and we'd be thrilled to produce either of these for the whole state to enjoy," said Rachel Kyllo, Cass-Clay Creamery spokesperson. "We are excited about the first Cass Clay Ice Cream Dream Flavor Contest, and loved all of the good ideas and great stories our fans had to share."
Marnie Thielbar of Langdon, ND, came up with Oil Patch Prairie Praline flavor, which includes brown sugar and butter flavored ice cream infused with chunks of brownies and glistening chocolate syrup. The second flavor, Buffalo Chip, was submitted by mother-son combo Ryan and Amy Christianson of Grand Forks and features chocolate ice cream, chocolate covered potato chips, brownie chunks and drizzles of rich caramel.
More than 140 flavors were submitted using creative North Dakota-inspired themes making the competition fierce—with creations like Heaven in the Heartland mixed with crunchy sunflower nuts blended in peanut butter and honey ice cream, sprinkled with chocolate caramel peanut candies and Strawberry Rhubarb Temptation containing swirls of strawberry, rhubarb and a dash of pie crust. Oil Patch Prairie Praline and Buffalo Chip were selected due to their unique flavor combinations and how well they embodied the spirit of North Dakota.
