FAIRFIELD, Conn., Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- This holiday season, Save the Children is making giving back easier than ever through its "Make the World Better with a Sweater" holiday campaign. On Friday, Dec.12, by donning your most "festive" sweater and donating $5 to Save the Children, you can help make the world a better place for children living in poverty in America and around the world. Spread the joy of these holiday celebrations by engaging your friends, family and colleagues in a sweater party at home, at school or at work.

"Our 'Make the World Better with a Sweater' fundraising campaign offers Americans a fun way to give back by doing something they might already be doing — sporting those 'festive' sweaters to school, work and family gatherings," said Carolyn Miles, president and CEO of Save the Children. "We hope sweater-wearers of all ages will be inspired to participate. The more money raised, the more children you and Save the Children can help this holiday season and throughout the new year."

Sweater participants can go to www.SavetheChildren.org/Sweater to donate $5 or more or text SWEATER to 20222 to donate $5.

Leading up to Friday, there have been many ways for everyone to get into the sweater spirit and raise funds for the campaign, as seen on NBC's "TODAY" show. Save the Children teamed up with Human Movement on their Ugly Sweater Runs in more than a dozen cities, which began on Nov. 29. Runners, walkers, and children are uniting at each of the runs for a little cardio, hot chocolate, and a winter-wonderland celebration. All runners are given the opportunity to donate $5 or more during registration or at each event. There is still time to sign up here to run in many cities.

Sweater lovers also have been stacking up on funny, holiday-themed sweaters to wear on Dec. 12. Through a partnership between Tipsy Elves and Save the Children, sweater enthusiasts are doing good while looking ugly.
