The council marks another step in SHIFT's mission to rethink how employers support the health, performance and overall capacity of the people who keep America moving.
Many workplace health programs were designed around traditional office environments. SHIFT was built specifically for the realities of frontline work — long shifts, physical demands, stress, fatigue and the pressures employees carry both on and off the job.
In 2022, approximately 5,200 construction workers ages 16 to 64 died by suicide—more than five times the number who died from fatal injuries on the job, according to data analyzed by CPWR–The Center for Construction Research and Training.
CDC data also show that in 2021, men working in construction had a suicide rate of 56.0 per 100,000, compared with 32.0 per 100,000 among men in the overall working population.

Dr. Luedtke specializes in trauma exposure, post-traumatic stress disorder and the development of evidence-based mental health interventions. She brings nearly two decades of clinical, research and leadership experience in PTSD-focused care and in training clinicians in evidence-based PTSD treatments.
Her work also includes the development of couples-based interventions for trauma-related disorders and collaborations with organizations serving military and veteran communities.
As a Founding Advisor, Dr. Luedtke will provide strategic guidance as SHIFT develops content and programming in mental health, stress management, resilience and recovery — supporting frontline employees and the organizations that employ them.
